Life can be like...needing to clear out our closet, sometimes you just have to go in deep, pull everything out, make a mess and then start sorting out what you want and what you don't. The chaos of an unorganized environment can mirror the chaos in our minds, making it difficult to focus, relax, joy...or be in a state of calmness. Sometimes when we don't want to deal with uncomfortable feelings, we simply just hide it away for now-I'll deal with it later mentality. Later only comes when we're forced to deal with the mess and dealing with that mess can be quite overwhelming.
It seems simple enough right? We should know what's all in our mental and emotional closets. Sometimes when we get anxious or frustrated, we just want to quickly pull everything out of the closet, and pile it in a corner.
The process of decluttering our minds involves identifying and addressing the negative thoughts and emotions that are holding us back. It's about creating mental space for growth, clarity and inner peace. Mental clutter can manifest in a variety of ways such as; negative self-talk, suppressing anger, sadness, grief, ruminating about past mistakes or constantly worrying about the future, feeling overwhelmed by the constant influx of information, social media, needing to stay connected with family and friends and not taking the time to slow down but rather feel like being on a hamster wheel.
Sometimes we need to hit pause, take a step back and re-evaluate our lives even when it's a mess. Figure out what is working, what is adding value to our lives, and what is not. Not everything is worth saving, especially if it's at the cost of your own overall well being.
It's hard to acknowledge we have unhealthy relationships, unhealthy habits, unhealthy behaviors and thought patterns that makes us tend to hold on to things we no longer need or people that are not good for us. But wait! It's so hard to let go and having these subconscious patterns makes everything so familiar, therefore, making it even harder to get rid of.
So start small so you don't become overwhelmed, practice removing one thing at a time, take one step at a time and stop to take some deep breaths if you have to recharge.
